Costa Tortugas lies north of Guayabitos and just below San Blas (or Matanchen Bay). The most popular town in the region, at least with regards to real estate, is Chacala. Chacala is 20 km up the highway from Guayabitos, and then 10 km off the highway to the ocean. It is set inside a beautiful well-protected bay, a favorite of boating cruisers who may be passing by. A long sandy beach extends from one end of the far end of the bay to the other.
There's a small fishing port within the bay, that also provides access for whale and coastal boating tour operators. The town inside is nestled in to north end of the bay, with small hotels, rental bungalows and restaurants lining the beach, with the rest of the town built into the hillside behind.
On the southern end of the bay is the well-established boutique hotel Mar de Jade that specializes in yoga and spiritual retreats.
On the point and to the north of Chacala is Marina Chacala, a gated community built around a small marina. Single family homes and large building lots are available. There's a beach club, private beach, set inside a picturesque little bay.
